Public Health Assistant

Job overview

The Public Health Assistant role is onsite in Pine Ridge, SD, with travel to satellite locations and possible overnight stays. Pay is $22–$25 per hour. The role supports WIC services for women, infants, children, and families through nutrition education, breastfeeding support, health assessments, and access to food and community resources. The assistant provides participant-centered case management and assessments, helps determine WIC eligibility, explains food benefits, and connects families with services. Outreach and mobile WIC delivery through the Wellness on Wheels van help extend services to participants at satellite sites.

What you'll do

• Provide WIC case management and participant support
• determine and document eligibility
• conduct nutrition and health assessments
• provide nutrition and breastfeeding education and support
• issue and explain WIC food benefits
• connect participants with community resources
• maintain participant documentation and caseloads
• participate in outreach
• deliver mobile WIC services at satellite locations
• collaborate with WIC staff, agencies, and community partners.
