The Prototype Designer role is onsite in Houston, TX. Compensation is not specified. The position supports Axiom Space’s human space exploration and space infrastructure work by producing prototype and mockup hardware. The role turns design and engineering needs into representative physical hardware for conceptual models, human factors assessments, engineering development, production tooling, and crew training. It contributes by coordinating with engineering and production teams and using digital fabrication and shop processes to build and refine prototypes.

What you'll do

• Design mockup and prototype hardware
• collaborate with engineering and production teams
• create CAD models and production files using SolidWorks or Rhino 3D
• program and operate laser cutters, 3D printers, and CNC routers
• fabricate components using hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
• work with wood, metal, composites, and plastic
• assist in developing prototyping capabilities
• communicate project status and issues
• use agile project management methods.
