WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor

The WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor role is onsite in Springfield, MA, with starting pay of $20 per hour. The counselor supports pregnant and breastfeeding WIC participants with basic breastfeeding information and encouragement. Through routine contacts, classes, and support groups, the counselor helps mothers address common breastfeeding concerns and connects them with designated breastfeeding experts, clinicians, and community resources when appropriate.

What you'll do

• Complete required in-person breastfeeding training and Safe Sleep online training
• observe peer counselors or breastfeeding experts
• maintain an assigned caseload and make periodic contacts
• provide basic breastfeeding information and support by phone or in person
• teach classes and lead support groups
• maintain confidential and accurate contact records
• refer mothers to appropriate clinical and community resources
• attend staff meetings and relevant conferences or workshops.
