Animal Control Officer

The Animal Control Officer role is onsite in San Mateo, CA, with pay of $30–$34 per hour, depending on experience. The Peninsula Humane Society’s Animal Rescue & Control division promotes humane care and treatment of animals through education and service. The officer responds to animal-related calls, rescues animals in distress, investigates complaints, and educates the public about animal welfare and applicable rules. Documentation, coordination with public agencies, and humane animal care support community safety and the organization’s animal welfare mission.

What you'll do

• Respond to stray domestic animals that may be sick, injured, aggressive, loose, or confined
• transport animals as appropriate
• humanely capture wildlife and transport it or provide euthanasia as directed by policy
• perform animal rescues
• investigate complaints and document findings
• issue warnings or citations as appropriate
• follow up on bite reports and rabies quarantines
• educate the public
• assist law enforcement and fire departments as needed
• prepare reports
• attend hearings and court dates as required
• maintain and operate a Society vehicle safely.
