The Equipment Operator - Class A or B CDL role is onsite in Ypsilanti, MI, with starting pay of $22.79 per hour. The full-time schedule is Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, with weekends as needed. The City of Ypsilanti’s Environmental Services Division assigns recycling collection duties during the first two years, followed by rotations through other divisions. The operator handles recycling and yard waste collection and may rotate into streets, forestry, and parks maintenance work. The role helps maintain city services through safe vehicle and equipment operation, public-space maintenance, and response to weather-related needs; on-call overtime is expected during winter snow and ice operations.

What you'll do

• Operate recycling and yard waste collection vehicles
• load and unload containers and respond to curbside service issues
• drive to material recovery or compost facilities
• operate dump trucks, snow plows, salters, and other heavy equipment
• perform street repairs, snow removal, and drainage maintenance
• trim, plant, and remove trees
• maintain parks and public spaces
• conduct daily vehicle inspections
• communicate with supervisors and respond to emergencies in all weather conditions.
