Job overview

The Flight Software Engineering Intern role is onsite in Los Angeles, CA, for approximately 28 weeks from January through August 2027. Pay is $25–$33 per hour, with final compensation determined by degree level. Hermeus is a defense aviation company developing high-speed aircraft, and the intern joins a team building avionics and flight software for a new flight vehicle. The intern supports simulation and hardware-in-the-loop infrastructure through software development, flight simulation, and hands-on hardware integration. This work helps verify flight software and make testing repeatable, automated, and data-rich.

What you'll do

  • support hardware-in-the-loop testing and integrate flight computers, avionics, sensors, actuators, and cable harnesses
  • write simulation and test software primarily in C++, with Python and MATLAB for modeling and tooling
  • troubleshoot hardware using schematics, pinouts, connectors, and bench tools
  • build logging, playback, and automation tools
  • own simulation and integration tasks from setup through testing and troubleshooting.
