The Entomologist — Postdoctoral Research Fellow role is onsite in Washington, DC, as a full-time temporary appointment for up to two years. The salary is $85,447 per year. The National Museum of Natural History’s mission is to promote understanding of the natural world and our place in it. The fellow conducts comparative genomics research on insect pollinators in support of a mass digitization project. The work includes DNA preparation and sequencing, genome assembly and annotation, evolutionary analysis, data validation and sharing, scientific publications, conference presentations, and education and outreach activities.

What you'll do

  • Extract DNA and prepare samples for whole-genome sequencing
  • assemble and annotate genomes
  • analyze comparative phylogeny, gene evolution, and pollination-related traits
  • validate, analyze, document, share, and deposit data in public repositories
  • collaborate on peer-reviewed papers
  • present research at professional meetings
  • participate in education and outreach.
