Job overview

The New ER Doctor (NERD) Program is an onsite, six-month training program in Cranberry, PA, starting in April 2027. Compensation is $120,000 per year during the program; after successful completion, the posting states a $156,000 base salary plus production. Veterinary Emergency Group’s mission is to help people and their pets when they need it most. The program transitions practicing non-emergency veterinarians into emergency doctors through immersive clinical and academic training, hands-on ER cases, and individualized mentorship. Participants work 3–4 hospital shifts per week, including days, swings, and nights, and successful graduates are guaranteed an emergency-doctor position at a VEG hospital location selected by the company, subject to program requirements.

What you'll do

  • Work alongside experienced VEG doctors on real emergency cases with mentorship and feedback
  • complete 3–4 hospital shifts per week across days, swings, and nights
  • participate in weekly case discussions, literature reviews, and hands-on training
  • develop client-centered communication and care skills
  • complete the six-month program and required competencies and benchmarks.
