Staff Forester, Cortland Region

Job overview

The Staff Forester role is based at the Cortland, NY office and works throughout the Cortland service region. Compensation is $22–$28 per hour. FORECON’s regional forestry team supports forestry operations and client projects in the area. The forester leads and contributes to vegetation management, inventory, timber sale, and conservation projects. The role supports regional operations through forest planning, field data work, client coordination, and monitoring for contract and regulatory compliance.

What you'll do

• Support the Regional Office Manager and regional operations
• lead and design assigned vegetation management, inventory, timber sale, and conservation projects
• make onsite decisions to meet project goals
• train seasonal and less-tenured staff
• design and write forest management plans
• process and audit inventory data
• liaise with municipal and nonprofit clients
• monitor timber sales and prepare permits
• ensure applicable regulatory compliance.

Why this role

Requires a bachelor's degree in forestry, resource management, or a related field. Three or more years of practical field experience preferred. Must be willing to obtain a New York pesticide applicator license within 12 months and work out of town for assigned 1–2 week periods.
