Maintenance Mechanic

Job overview

The Maintenance Mechanic works onsite in New York, NY, for $19–$21 per hour. The role supports facilities services at a family homeless shelter serving children; Westhab provides housing and supportive services to vulnerable community members. The mechanic keeps the shelter facility in working order by troubleshooting and completing interior and exterior repairs, preventive maintenance, and room-turnover work. The position also fills in for the Custodian/Driver when that employee is absent or on designated shifts, including custodial duties and driving agency vehicles to transport clients and materials.

What you'll do

• Repair building and grounds issues, including light electrical and plumbing, HVAC, sheetrock, plaster, windows, doors, locks, flooring, and furniture
• complete preventive maintenance checklists and room-turnover work
• escort contractors and accept deliveries
• assist with resident belongings as needed
• cover custodial and agency driving duties in the Custodian/Driver's absence. Weekend and evening hours are required.
