Job overview

The Medical Assistant role is onsite at Apicha Community Health Center’s Manhattan location in New York, NY, with compensation of $23.48–$24.54 per hour. Apicha provides primary care, preventive health, mental health, and supportive services, including culturally competent care for underserved and vulnerable populations. Working as part of the Care Team, the assistant supports nursing staff and medical providers in delivering patient care. Clinical, coordination, and administrative work helps maintain patient flow, care standards, and follow-up.

What you'll do

  • Greet patients, escort them to exam rooms, and prepare them for providers
  • assist with biopsies, Pap tests, HRA, phlebotomy, specimen collection and processing, vital signs, EKGs, peak flow, and point-of-care testing
  • gather medical information and report it to providers
  • coordinate with laboratories and ensure results are available
  • support patient flow, medication renewals, provider orders, referrals, follow-up, and routine clinic administration
  • participate in quality improvement
  • follow infection-control and confidentiality procedures
  • maintain clinic equipment, supplies, and temperature logs.

Why this role

High school diploma or GED and current BLS CPR certificate required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required, with an associate’s degree preferred. One year of Medical Assistant experience, HIV/AIDS experience, Spanish or an Asian language, and eClinicalWorks knowledge are preferred. Flexible hours may include evenings and weekends.
