Corporate Controller

Compensation is $0 per year. The Corporate Controller role is onsite in Santa Cruz, CA. The position supports a renewable energy client and works closely with the COO/CFO, project management, HR, and operations. The Controller owns accounting operations and financial reporting across the company and related entities. By overseeing close, project accounting, payroll, controls, and process improvements, the role helps ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and useful for management decisions and external banking, bonding, and insurance relationships.

What you'll do

• Own month-end close and monthly financial statements, including WIP schedules, over/under billings, job-cost reporting, and ASC 606 percent-complete revenue recognition
• prepare earned- and billed-basis reporting
• oversee project margin analysis, backlog reporting, and KPIs
• account for clean-energy grants, tax credits, and warranty reserves
• oversee AP, AR, lien waivers, and field payroll
• manage multi-entity and intercompany accounting
• maintain controls, policies, fixed assets, and California tax and licensing compliance
• manage external providers
• improve accounting systems and processes
• lead and develop a small accounting team.

Why this role

Requires 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years as a Controller or in senior accounting leadership, construction accounting experience, strong GAAP knowledge, and experience with construction ERP systems. IBEW or other union payroll reporting and renewable energy EPC experience are listed as nice to have.
