The Digital Forensic Examiner role is onsite in Lorton, VA; the stated salary range is $70,000–$80,000 per year. The examiner supports a forensic laboratory’s quality program and works with investigators and laboratory customers. The role preserves and analyzes digital evidence, maintains chain of custody and repeatable records, and communicates findings through reports and, when required, testimony. It also supports laboratory accreditation, tool validation, proficiency testing, and the release of forensic findings.

What you'll do

• Assist with digital-evidence seizure, preservation, and archiving
• maintain chain of custody
• plan analyses with investigators
• use authorized tools for forensic imaging and extraction
• recover deleted files, decrypt protected data, and conduct keyword searches
• maintain equipment and records
• write reports
• assist with audits, discovery, and proficiency testing
• testify in legal proceedings
• travel to investigation sites as needed.

Why this role
