Special Events Associate II

The Special Events Associate II role is onsite in Durham, NC, with a flexible schedule of 10–25 hours per week depending on event needs; shifts range from 2–8 hours and may include days, evenings, and weekends. Pay is $15.75 per hour. The role supports the Museum of Life and Science’s Special Events team and its mission to spark curiosity and respect for nature and science. This position helps plan and operate ticketed and admission-included events, supporting a safe, welcoming visitor experience from setup through cleanup. It leads assigned daytime event operations or serves as an evening zone captain, while coordinating staff and volunteers and responding to guest needs and emergencies as trained.

What you'll do

• Assist with event planning, brainstorming, material preparation, and emergency training
• lead operations at assigned daytime events and serve as zone captain at assigned evening events
• train staff, greet and place volunteers, redirect guests, and provide initial de-escalation
• deliver customer service and share information about museum facilities, policies, exhibits, and events
• set up and clean up event spaces
• check in ticketholders, guide visitors, monitor spaces, and enforce applicable laws and museum policies
• follow emergency procedures.
