Payroll Manager

The Payroll Manager role is based onsite in ZGF Architects’ Portland, OR office, with a base salary of $110,000–$130,000 per year depending on experience. The role supports payroll across six U.S. locations and one Canadian location. The manager owns the payroll lifecycle and related timekeeping, compliance, controls, and reporting. By resolving escalated payroll and tax matters and partnering with Accounting, Finance, People + Culture, operational leaders, and service providers, the role supports accurate and controlled payroll operations.

What you'll do

• Own payroll validation, approval, funding, payment, accounting, reporting, and review
• process biweekly payroll and monthly Partner payroll
• administer timesheets and timekeeping standards
• validate payroll master data
• oversee U.S. and Canadian payroll compliance through outsourced providers
• review registers, exceptions, tax notices, and funding
• reconcile payroll accounts and post journal entries
• manage tax reporting and filing
• serve as payroll escalation point
• administer payroll systems, configurations, security, workflows, integrations, testing, upgrades, and vendors
• design controls
• maintain procedures and documentation
• coordinate audits
• prepare payroll, labor, tax, and compliance reports.

Why this role

Requires six to eight years of progressive U.S. multi-state and Canadian payroll experience; bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Deltek Vantagepoint, Dayforce, and CPP designation preferred.
