Job overview

The Water Operator III role is onsite in Salt Lake City, UT. Compensation is $22.75–$34.41 per hour. The position is in the City of South Salt Lake Public Works – Water Division, maintaining the city’s water utility systems. Working under the Water Superintendent, the operator maintains, installs, and repairs water utility equipment and systems. The role helps keep water storage, transmission, and distribution infrastructure operating, monitors for problems, and responds to service requests and required emergency calls.

What you'll do

• Maintain advanced metering infrastructure
• install, operate, maintain, and repair water storage, transmission, and distribution systems
• monitor system pressures, telemetry, and operational equipment
• inspect, install, repair, clean, and maintain water meters
• respond to customer requests and complaints and turn water service on or off as required
• complete work orders and records
• operate small and heavy equipment
• monitor for excavations, leaks, and line breaks
• follow work-zone and equipment safety procedures
• maintain and repair fire hydrants
• assist with pressure-reducing valves, booster pump stations, and water sampling and testing
• respond to 24-hour emergency calls and follow the on-call rotation.

Why this role

Requires a valid Utah driver’s license. Utah Class A CDL with tanker endorsement, Grade IV Distribution Water Operator certification, and Flagger Certification must be held or obtained within 12 months of hire. Water-system experience is preferred; construction, plumbing, or related work experience is required.
