The Planner I role is onsite in La Plata, MD. The starting pay range is $28.65–$32.95 per hour, based on experience. The position is part of the Town of La Plata Planning Department and supports the town’s development, long-range planning, and zoning initiatives. Working under the Senior Planner and Director of Planning, the Planner I reviews development proposals, researches planning issues, and prepares technical analyses and recommendations. The role also provides zoning and permitting guidance and supports public boards and town officials in land-use planning and regulatory work.

What you'll do

• Review and process site plans, plats, variances, special exceptions, and other development applications
• evaluate forest conservation plans and NRI/FSD submissions
• research planning trends and issues
• check compliance with applicable development regulations
• prepare technical reports and recommendations
• present staff analyses to planning and review boards
• provide zoning and permitting guidance
• maintain development records and assist with land-use maps, zoning ordinances, and the Comprehensive Plan
• conduct field inspections.
