In-House Counsel

The In-House Counsel role is hybrid in Salt Lake City, UT, with a full-time schedule and a base salary of $170,000–$250,000 per year plus equity. Zanskar develops geothermal resources and power plants to provide carbon-free, baseload power. As the company’s first in-house legal leader, this role partners with founders and leadership to translate legal and regulatory risks into practical decisions. It builds legal capacity across development, financing, commercial agreements, governance, and other company needs as the business grows.

What you'll do

• Advise founders and leadership on day-to-day legal matters and escalate significant risks
• structure and negotiate project development, construction, financing, tax, offtake, interconnection, and other agreements
• support mineral and surface rights, site control, land use, permitting, environmental review, and regulatory matters
• help design the legal department and use AI and automation for high-volume workflows
• manage outside-counsel strategy, scope, budgets, performance, and knowledge transfer.
