The Human Resources Director role is 100% onsite across Short Story’s San Francisco headquarters and South San Francisco fulfillment center, supporting a distributed stylist network. Compensation is $180,000 to $210,000 per year. Short Story is a technology-powered retailer focused on creating a seamless shopping experience for petite women. The director leads and scales HR systems across corporate, fulfillment, and stylist teams, strengthening compliance, performance practices, and employee relations. The role helps build repeatable people processes that support the company’s growth and operating standards.

What you'll do

• Lead the HR function across corporate headquarters, fulfillment operations, and the distributed stylist network
• advise the CEO and leadership on organizational design, workforce planning, and talent development
• build performance and compensation frameworks
• oversee fulfillment HR practices, labor planning, recruitment coordination, and employee relations
• improve stylist recruitment, onboarding, development, communication, and retention.
