Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Job overview

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) works onsite in Wayne, NJ; compensation is $22–$25 per hour. Hearten supports young adults with developmental disabilities as they transition into adulthood. The DSP provides individualized daily-living and community support to a client with autism, low vision, and balance impairments. The role promotes independence while helping prevent falls, supporting personal care and social participation, monitoring well-being, and communicating observations to the team.

What you'll do

• Provide close supervision and hands-on walking assistance in community settings
• identify fall hazards and provide clear verbal cues
• support use of prescribed eyeglasses
• assist with dressing and hygiene while encouraging independence and preserving dignity
• facilitate safe community activities and social participation
• monitor health, mood, and mobility
• follow support and safety protocols
• document daily activities and incidents
• communicate updates to the agency and team.
