The Substance Use Specialist role is an onsite, full-time position in Los Angeles, California, with a schedule of Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Compensation is $24.78–$30.20 per hour, plus a $2.41-per-hour weekend differential. PATH’s Metro Rail Outreach team works to connect people experiencing homelessness with housing and supportive services. The specialist conducts outreach and engagement on the Metro system, assesses needs, provides street-based case management, and links clients to housing, health, mental health, and substance use services. The role contributes to PATH’s work helping people move toward housing stability and improved well-being.

What you'll do

  • Conduct outreach at Metro stations, bus stops, and aboard trains
  • complete VI-SPDAT assessments and document results in HMIS
  • conduct substance use assessments and make referrals
  • provide street-based case management and assistance with benefits, identification, employment, housing, and health services
  • meet with clients to review goals
  • coordinate with providers, law enforcement, and interim service providers
  • document contacts and client progress
  • provide referrals, linkages, and advocacy.
