The Water Distribution Operator I works onsite in Copperas Cove, TX. Pay is $20.74 per hour. The position supports the City of Copperas Cove’s water distribution system and reports to the Repair & Installation Supervisor. This entry-level role helps operate, maintain, and repair water distribution infrastructure while supporting system reliability and required reporting. The operator assists with water lines and related equipment, monitors system data and water quality indicators, responds to customer complaints, and periodically responds to emergency calls, including a 24-hour, seven-day on-call period.

What you'll do

• Assist with installation, repair, and maintenance of water lines, meters, hydrants, valves, and related equipment
• record required operational data
• monitor SCADA data when required and chlorine residuals
• test water meter accuracy
• maintain pump and storage facilities when required
• respond to customer complaints
• perform bacteriological sampling upon licensing when required
• respond periodically to emergency calls and standby coverage.

Why this role

A high school diploma or GED and a valid Texas Class C or higher driver’s license are required. Must obtain a Class D Water Distribution license within 18 months and a Class C license within three years of employment.
