The Lead Mechanic, Equipment Operator/Laborer — CDL Required role is onsite in Chicago, IL; the posting lists pay of $37–$38.50 per hour. The role supports the Chicago Skyway’s mission to provide a safe, time-efficient, convenient, and reliable highway to and through Chicago. The position inspects, diagnoses, and repairs vehicles and heavy equipment used in toll operations and emergency response. When mechanical work is not needed or as required, the employee also performs roadway maintenance and equipment-operator/laborer duties, including snow removal and pothole repair.

What you'll do

• Diagnose and repair automobiles, trucks, and heavy equipment
• perform engine, transmission, suspension, electrical, and preventive maintenance work
• make road calls for emergency repairs
• perform gas and electric welding
• maintain inventory and service records
• order and receive parts
• perform roadway duties as needed, including snow removal, pothole patching, crack sealing, mowing, and trash removal
• work on-call and be available during snow events
• work 12-hour shifts if required.
