The Certified Substance Abuse Counselor role is onsite in East Saint Louis, IL. Compensation is $20.60 per hour. The position provides substance abuse education and guidance to residents at an assigned facility as part of GEO’s correctional and community reentry services. The counselor assesses residents’ substance use and life-skills needs, provides individual and group counseling, and coordinates clinical care and treatment planning. Documentation, aftercare assessment, and collaboration with treatment staff support residents’ rehabilitation and reentry.

What you'll do

• Prepare treatment and educational materials
• maintain clinical records and charts
• conduct substance abuse and life-skills assessments and integrate results into treatment plans
• provide individual and group counseling
• coordinate assigned resident care
• participate in treatment planning
• assess aftercare needs
• observe resident interactions and assist staff with behavior monitoring and intervention plans.

Why this role

Requires Alcohol and Drug Counseling certification, a high school diploma or equivalent, and two years of counseling experience; correctional-setting experience is preferred. A bachelor’s degree in a social or human services field is preferred.
