Payroll Coordinator

Job overview

The Payroll Coordinator role is onsite in Chicago, IL, with compensation of $40,000–$50,000 per year. After School Matters is a Chicago nonprofit that provides after-school and summer programs to high school teens, including paid apprenticeships in arts, communications, leadership, sports, and STEM. The coordinator prepares and verifies payroll data for teen participants and instructors so payroll analysts can process accurate payments. The role also supports payroll delivery, responds to pay-related questions, and helps maintain reliable payroll records and processes.

What you'll do

• Audit teen enrollment and attendance data and instructor timesheets
• run reports and verify social security number data
• coordinate corrections with staff, teens, and parents
• update payroll records for hires, rehires, terminations, and program transfers
• upload direct deposit and pay card information
• assist with check distribution and pay status reports
• track outstanding checks
• support 1099 and W-2 distribution
• facilitate meetings about stipend schedules and deadlines
• respond to payroll inquiries
• and supervise 1–3 seasonal interns.
