Applied AI Engineer – Document Intelligence

Job overview

The Applied AI Engineer – Document Intelligence role is onsite in Dallas, TX, with a base salary of $140,000–$170,000 per year. The engineer works on Fortegra’s AI-enabled commercial insurance systems for processing and interpreting business documents. The role builds and improves production document-intelligence features, evaluates model and parser behavior, and follows failures through data, prompts, application logic, and product expectations. Its purpose is to deliver complete, evidence-grounded, dependable outputs for insurance workflows such as underwriting submission triage and policy packet audits.

What you'll do

• Build features across document parsing, OCR, classification, extraction, normalization, reconciliation, retrieval, and summarization
• maintain evaluation sets and analyze failures
• work with domain experts to define schemas and acceptance criteria
• compare models and parsing approaches
• build and operate Python and Azure Functions services
• improve tests and observability
• and support production readiness.
