Highway Operator

Job overview

The Highway Operator role is onsite in Charlestown, IN, with a Monday–Friday schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and overtime as needed. Compensation is $26.52 per hour. The Clark County Highway Department maintains county roads and rights-of-way. The operator uses trucks, equipment, and hand tools to maintain roads, drainage features, and roadside areas. The work supports safe and usable county infrastructure through road-material handling, sign work, equipment maintenance, and response to designated emergencies.

What you'll do

• Operate trucks and equipment to clear and maintain county roads and rights-of-way
• haul and spread road materials
• install and remove permanent and emergency signs
• perform preventive equipment maintenance and maintain logs
• remove brush and storm-damaged trees
• lift and load materials, shovel and spread patching materials, and pick up trash
• assist with traffic control, ditch excavation, and tile and culvert work
• serve on 24-hour emergency call when designated by the Superintendent.
