The Registered Nurse, Emergency Department position is onsite in Houston, TX, on a PRN day shift from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; weekends may rotate. Compensation is not specified. The nurse supports the Emergency Care Center at St. Joseph Medical Center, Houston’s first downtown hospital, which provides emergency and other health services to the community. The nurse assesses and cares for patients with urgent, traumatic, and potentially life-threatening conditions. Through triage, treatment, education, and coordination with the care team, the role contributes to safe, responsive emergency care across age groups.

What you'll do

• Triage, assess, and prioritize patients according to the ESI Level 5 Triage System when qualified and assigned
• perform primary and secondary assessments for traumatic injuries
• initiate nursing care and therapy for cardiac symptoms
• manage rapidly changing or life-threatening conditions according to emergency care guidelines and advanced cardiac and pediatric life support protocols
• manage pain
• provide age-appropriate care and education
• educate patients and caregivers on home care, medications, referrals, and follow-up
• maintain eight hours of stroke-specific education yearly
• collaborate with colleagues and support personnel to implement and evaluate care plans
• promote patient safety and follow facility policies.
