Under a mentor veterinarian’s supervision, externs practice clinical problem-solving, technical, and communication skills while participating in small-animal patient care. The experience is intended to build practice readiness through exposure to histories, examinations, diagnostic and therapeutic planning, surgery, medical cases, wellness care, client communication, and medical records.

What you'll do

• Under veterinary supervision, gather patient histories and perform physical examinations
• develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans
• scrub in to surgery
• assist with medical cases and wellness care
• develop client communication and technical skills
• produce medical records, including SOAPs, within daily practice time limits.
