Cloud Architect – Azure and Multi-Cloud

Job overview

The Cloud Architect position is fully remote, with the listed worksite in Washington, DC. Pay is $81 per hour. The role serves as the technical lead for the Office of the Chief Technology Officer cloud team and provides cloud architecture expertise across DC government and partner agencies. The architect leads the continued build-out of a secure, governed cloud environment centered on Microsoft Azure with supporting AWS workloads. The role translates agency requirements into designs, delivers infrastructure through code, leads migrations, and provides technical direction to an Azure Cloud Engineer.

What you'll do

• Design Azure and supporting AWS environments, landing zones, policies, role-based access, and hybrid connectivity. Establish infrastructure-as-code, change-management, and documentation standards
• deliver production changes through code and pull requests. Lead workload assessments, design, cost modeling, and migrations from on-premises virtualized systems. Provide architectural oversight for Azure Virtual Desktop
• define monitoring, backup, and disaster-recovery standards
• optimize cloud spend and support chargeback reporting. Support existing AWS workloads, mentor and review the Azure Cloud Engineer, maintain diagrams and runbooks, and track work and incidents in Azure DevOps and ServiceNow.

Why this role

Fully remote role; requires 8+ years in infrastructure engineering, including at least 5 years designing and building in Azure, production Terraform experience, and Azure landing-zone delivery. Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification required or obtainable within six months.
