The CNC Lathe Machinist (Setup & Operator) - 1st Shift role is onsite in Tempe, AZ, with a Monday–Friday schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Compensation is $25–$40 per hour. The role supports CMI Group’s Systems 3 division, which manufactures flight-critical and safety-critical aerospace and defense components. The machinist sets up and operates CNC lathes to produce precision components that meet engineering specifications and aerospace quality standards. The work contributes to reliable manufacturing by verifying part quality, adjusting programs and tooling, troubleshooting issues, and improving setup and production processes.

What you'll do

• Set up and operate CNC lathes and turning centers
• produce parts to engineering drawings and tight tolerances
• read blueprints, GD&T, routings, and work instructions
• load, verify, and edit CNC programs
• install and adjust tooling and workholding
• adjust offsets, feeds, speeds, and cutting parameters
• verify first pieces and perform in-process inspections with precision measuring instruments
• operate multiple machines when production allows
• collaborate with programming, engineering, quality, and production teams
• perform routine maintenance and equipment checks
• maintain a clean and safe work area and follow quality, safety, AS9100, and applicable ITAR requirements.
