Job overview

The Program Advocate, Single Adult Shelter role is onsite in Lowell, MA, Wednesday through Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to midnight, with a 30-minute unpaid meal break and 37.5 hours per week. Pay is $18 per hour. The role supports SMOC’s shelter program. The advocate helps maintain a safe, secure, and respectful shelter environment during each shift. Through regular rounds, documentation, crisis response, and communication with clients and staff, the role supports shelter operations and client needs.

What you'll do

  • Monitor shelter surroundings and respond to issues
  • maintain client and staff safety
  • review shift logs and communicate handoff information
  • maintain shift logs and files
  • report problems, rule infractions, and emergencies
  • conduct rounds every 15 minutes
  • engage clients and address needs
  • participate in meetings and training
  • protect confidentiality and follow program, agency, and funder requirements.

Why this role
