The Safety-Critical Software Engineer role is onsite in San Diego, CA, with compensation of $160,000–$300,000 per year. The engineer supports Shield AI’s Hivemind Foundations team, which develops core products and capabilities for resilient autonomy and intelligence on aircraft and other platforms. The role designs, develops, integrates, and tests Run-Time Assurance software to help keep autonomy safe, predictable, and effective. It contributes production-ready C++ safety capabilities, hardware integration, and engineering evidence for aircraft systems, including support for the X-BAT collaborative combat aircraft.

What you'll do

• Develop, integrate, and test configurable Run-Time Assurance components
• adapt reusable C++ safety capabilities into production runtime components
• implement real-time C++ at interfaces between mission autonomy, high-assurance middleware, and flight controls
• integrate software with aircraft hardware for hardware-in-the-loop and flight-test campaigns
• produce tests, documentation, designs, system models, results, and traceability artifacts
• participate in code reviews and design discussions.
