The Special Projects Accountant role is onsite in Galveston, TX, Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM. Compensation is $30–$35 per hour. The Galveston Park Board is a governmental organization supporting tourism, coastline protection, public spaces, and the island community; this role supports its financial operations during a six-month assignment.

What you'll do

• Prepare financial statement schedules, disclosures, and reporting support
• assist with month- and year-end close, reconciliations, and analyses
• prepare governmental accounting conversion entries and adjustments
• research GASB standards
• review general-ledger accounts
• prepare capital-asset and construction-in-progress schedules
• support grant and FEMA reporting
• prepare audit schedules
• analyze budget-to-actual results
• document procedures and transfer knowledge to permanent Finance staff.

Why this role

The six-month full-time assignment requires a bachelor’s degree and at least five years of progressively responsible governmental accounting experience, including fund accounting and GASB reporting. A CPA, CGFM, CGFO, or CPFO is preferred. Occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, or local travel may be required.
