Civil Structural Engineering Intern – Summer 2027

Job overview

The Civil Structural Engineering Intern role is onsite in Minneapolis, MN, with work in both office and field environments. Pay is $20–$24 per hour. Engineering Systems Inc. investigates engineering and scientific questions, including structural damage and failure, to help clients understand complex technical issues. The intern supports the Civil and Structural team through site inspections, documentation, analysis, drawings, and technical reports. This work contributes to investigations and practical repair or retrofit recommendations that improve structural safety, performance, and reliability.

What you'll do

• Visit sites and inspect existing structures
• document dimensions, structural systems, conditions, and damage
• review project literature, drawings, and reports
• prepare AutoCAD drawings for proposed repairs or retrofits
• use SAP2000 or similar software for structural analysis
• organize calculations and data with MathCAD or Excel
• prepare technical reports.

Why this role

Internships are expected to be full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, during business hours of 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; participants must be able to work at least 32 hours weekly and take no more than two classes. Requires three completed years of college in civil engineering or physics/science and ability to travel for trips of three days.
