The Teacher Assistant – Head Start role is onsite in Bel Air, MD; pay is $19.15–$20.47. The position supports the Maryland Rural Development Corporation’s Head Start program, which serves rural, low-income households and communities. The role assists the Head Start Teacher in creating a safe, developmentally appropriate classroom that promotes school readiness and social-emotional development. It also supports children’s daily routines, family engagement, classroom organization, and program health and safety practices.

What you'll do

• Assist with lesson planning and classroom activities
• engage children in play-based learning, reading, and hands-on experiences
• observe development and contribute input to individualized learning plans
• model positive social-emotional behavior
• supervise children
• organize classroom materials
• support meals, naptime, and transitions
• follow health and safety policies
• communicate with families about children’s progress
• encourage parent involvement
• prepare materials for parent meetings
• maintain confidential files
• attend required training and meetings.
