The Clinical Nurse II role is onsite in Washington, DC, on Howard University Hospital’s 5 North Surgery/Trauma Unit. It is full-time, with three 12-hour day shifts per week from 7:30 AM to 8:00 PM; every other weekend and holiday are required. Pay is $37.33–$62.43 per hour, with an updated range of $37.89–$63.36 per hour effective July 1, 2026. Howard University Hospital is a teaching hospital and designated DC Level 1 Trauma Center. The nurse delivers patient-centered bedside care to adults with acute medical conditions and surgery or trauma needs. The role assesses and treats patients, coordinates with the interdisciplinary team, supports safe transitions, and serves as a clinical resource for newer nurses and students.

What you'll do

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
• administer medications and IV therapies
• manage vascular access
• recognize deterioration and activate emergency response teams
• educate patients and families
• coordinate with interdisciplinary services
• document care and handoffs
• delegate appropriately
• support unit quality improvement
• serve as charge nurse with manager approval and as a clinical resource.
