The Head Start Teacher Assistant role is onsite in Maryville, TN, and pays $15.85 per hour. Douglas-Cherokee Economic Authority Head Start/Early Head Start serves children ages 0–5 across eight East Tennessee counties. The assistant supports the lead teacher in providing a safe, engaging, developmentally appropriate preschool environment. The role helps deliver learning activities, document children’s progress, engage families, and may assume lead or supervisory responsibilities during teacher absences.

What you'll do

• Help maintain a safe, organized, engaging classroom and outdoor environment
• support planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate activities
• observe and document children’s progress and assist with assessments and records
• communicate with families through conferences, home visits, and engagement opportunities
• encourage family and community involvement
• attend staff meetings and training
• assume lead teacher or supervisory responsibilities as needed during teacher absences.
