Job overview

The Senior Substation Engineer – Protection and Controls role is based in Midland, MI, with work in a combination of office and active project-site environments and frequent travel to project and substation sites. Pay is $110,000–$160,000 per year. Nexus Engineering Group is an employee-owned engineering, procurement, and construction management firm supporting clients from concept through startup. The role leads protection, control, and wiring design for high-voltage substation projects, producing complete, constructible drawing packages. It also coordinates across disciplines and with clients and vendors, checks deliverables, guides other engineers and designers, and supports project execution and client confidence.

  • Lead substation protection, control, and wiring design
  • develop relay and control schematics, wiring documentation, schedules, nameplates, and project documents
  • apply design standards
  • coordinate with project teams, clients, and vendors
  • formally check deliverables
  • contribute to schedules
  • mentor engineers and designers
  • visit project and substation sites.
