General Shop Technician

Job overview

The General Shop Technician role is onsite in Hampton, VA, with compensation of $50,000–$70,000 per year. Threat Tec is an integrated technology and services company serving defense and commercial customers with training, readiness, and mission-support solutions. This position supports the Mission Engineering Division. The technician helps keep shop and engineering projects moving through hands-on mechanical, fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and repair work. The role assists machinists and engineering personnel with equipment and prototype work while maintaining safe, organized shop operations.

What you'll do

• Perform mechanical assembly, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs
• assist with fabrication and modification of parts and systems
• perform carpentry and basic metal fabrication
• operate hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely
• support prototype and mechanical-system integration
• maintain shop equipment
• interpret basic technical drawings and instructions
• organize materials and inventory
• and maintain a clean, safe workspace.

Why this role

High school diploma or GED and previous hands-on experience in a machine shop, repair, fabrication, maintenance, construction, or similar technical setting are required. Two or more years of related experience is preferred.
