WIC Nutrition Specialist

The WIC Nutrition Specialist role is onsite in Oswego, NY, with regular travel to permanent and temporary WIC sites. Pay is $18.18–$22.45 per hour. The role supports Oswego County Opportunities’ WIC Program and its participant-centered nutrition and health services. The specialist combines clerical and nutrition paraprofessional work to help determine eligibility, enroll and support participants, and deliver program information and referrals. The role also supports nutrition assessments and education, maintains participant records, and helps ensure WIC services are accessible across county sites.

What you'll do

• Determine and document categorical, income, and residential eligibility
• interview applicants
• enroll, certify, and maintain participant records
• complete portions of nutrition and health assessments, including height and weight screenings
• orient participants to WIC
• assist with benefit authorization and distribution
• support nutrition education and referrals
• manage appointments and follow-ups
• conduct community outreach
• transport and set up equipment at temporary sites
• enter participant data
• train new staff on certification processes and policies.

Why this role

37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year; Monday and Friday hours are 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; county-wide travel and occasional travel outside the county required; early mornings, evenings, and Saturdays may be needed.
