Payroll Specialist

The Payroll Specialist role is hybrid in Redwood City, CA, with onsite work three days per week (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday); candidates must already be in the Bay Area. The targeted base salary is $112,000–$132,000 per year. Zūm coordinates student mobility for more than 6,500 schools through its Connected Mobility Experience system. This role supports accurate, timely payroll operations for more than 1,000 hourly and salaried employees. It processes payroll and union pay items, checks and reconciles payroll data, supports compliance and audits, prepares reports, and resolves employee inquiries in partnership with HR and Finance.

What you'll do

• Process payroll for hourly and salaried employees, including adjustments, bonuses, reimbursements, corrections, retroactive pay, and off-cycle or manual checks
• administer union payroll under CBA terms
• review calculations and reconcile payroll registers and hours
• conduct pre- and post-payroll audits
• maintain compliance with payroll regulations, tax filings, and year-end activities
• prepare reports and audit documentation
• respond to employee inquiries
• collaborate with HR and Finance
• support SOX controls and identify process improvements.
