Highway Maintenance Class III Operator

The Highway Maintenance Class III Operator role is onsite in Essex Junction, VT, and pays $36–$42 per hour. It is a temporary five-month position running November 1, 2026, through April 1, 2027, for 40 hours per week; regular hours are generally Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but may vary with municipal and weather needs. The role is in the Town of Essex Public Works Highway Division. The operator maintains and repairs town roadways and public works facilities, including water, sewer, and stormwater mains. Winter plowing and heavy-equipment operation help maintain municipal roads and infrastructure through the season.

• Perform general maintenance and repairs on town roadways and public works facilities
• operate heavy equipment such as a road grader, backhoe, and street sweeper
• plow town roads in winter
• work overtime during the winter season as required.
