The Backend Engineer, Internet of Things (IoT) Platform role is onsite in San Francisco, CA, with regular office presence required. Compensation is $200,000–$230,000 per year, plus bonus and equity. Fellow makes kitchen products designed in San Francisco and used around the world. The engineer builds, scales, and operates backend systems and IoT infrastructure connecting physical products to mobile applications and cloud services. The role owns device-to-cloud architecture and reliability, enabling secure provisioning, software updates, data services, and dependable connected-product experiences.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable AWS backend services
• manage PostgreSQL reliability and performance
• implement AWS IoT services, secure provisioning, certificate lifecycle management, and staged over-the-air delivery
• define service KPIs, SLIs, and SLOs and operate observability and incident response
• build internal tools and analytics
• own infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD workflows
• manage access controls, secrets, and device certificates
• collaborate with software, product, and QA teams
• explore product integrations when they support the roadmap.
