Job overview

The Critical Facility Plant Operator position is onsite at the VA Capital Region Readiness Center in Martinsburg, WV. Compensation is not specified. The role supports the facility’s 24/7/365 operational watch team and the VA’s critical readiness mission. The operator monitors facility infrastructure and responds to alarms to help maintain safe, continuous operation of electrical, mechanical, environmental, fuel, and life-safety systems. The role also supports preventive maintenance, work-order tracking, and shift handoffs in the central plant and control operations room.

What you'll do

• Conduct continuous onsite watchstanding and computer-based monitoring of facility systems
• perform security, equipment, and plant rounds
• respond to alarms and escalate issues
• manage and dispatch CMMS work orders
• maintain shift logs and turnover briefings
• support preventive maintenance, filter changes, minor repairs, and operational checks
• escort authorized personnel and contractors in secure areas.

Why this role

The schedule is rotating 24/7/365 shift work, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts are limited to a maximum of 10 consecutive hours within a 24-hour window, with mandatory 10-hour rest intervals. Required travel is none.
