Emergency Veterinary Assistant

The Emergency Veterinary Assistant role is an onsite, full-time position in Burke, Virginia. Compensation is $20–$49 per hour. Veterinary Emergency Group's mission is to help people and their pets when they need it most. The assistant supports emergency veterinary nursing care through patient monitoring, treatments, triage, medication administration, diagnostic testing, and care rounds. The role works alongside licensed veterinary technicians and follows applicable laws and supervision requirements for clinical tasks.

What you'll do

• Provide basic to intermediate nursing care, monitoring, and treatments
• triage incoming patients using knowledge of common conditions and assessment parameters
• administer medications and support fluid therapy
• participate in outpatient and inpatient care and patient rounds
• collect samples and perform diagnostic tests
• assist with sedation and surgical anesthesia under LVT or DVM supervision
• maintain urinary catheters, nasal oxygen tubes, and oxygen equipment. Advanced tasks are performed where permitted by law.
