Special Education Teacher / Literacy & Communication Tutor

The Special Education Teacher / Literacy & Communication Tutor role is an onsite, part-time position in Little Elm, TX, with sessions arranged with the family, initially about three times a week for 30–60 minutes. Compensation is negotiable based on qualifications and experience; no numeric pay range is specified. The role supports a family’s young adult with autism and limited expressive speech. The tutor assesses current literacy, develops an individualized plan, and provides systematic, explicit instruction using phonics, functional vocabulary, and picture and word supports. The role also supports communication with AAC and visual supports, adapts sessions to sensory, attention, and regulation needs, and tracks measurable progress.

What you'll do

• Assess literacy skills without requiring spoken responses for every task
• develop an individualized literacy plan
• provide systematic, explicit instruction using phonics, functional vocabulary, picture and word supports, and age-respectful materials
• support communication with AAC and visual supports
• coordinate with the speech-language pathologist when authorized
• adapt sessions to sensory, attention, and regulation needs
• keep brief, measurable progress records.
