Shelter Worker – Standby

Job overview

The Shelter Worker – Standby role is onsite in Minneapolis, MN, with pay of $20–$21.50 per hour. Agate Housing and Services works to end homelessness and relieve hunger through action and advocacy; the Outreach and Shelter Department serves single adults through emergency response programs. The standby worker supports safe, consistent shelter operations and helps guests connect with housing stability and self-sufficiency. The role is on standby 2–3 nights per week, with a 9:30 p.m. phone punch-in through 10:45 p.m.; if a staff member calls off or does not show, the worker must cover an overnight shift through 7:30 or 8:30 a.m. The worker may be assigned to either Minneapolis shelter.

What you'll do

• Support safe shelter operations
• build professional rapport with guests
• answer calls and monitor entrances
• conduct rounds and monitor guest behavior
• use de-escalation and crisis response
• monitor security cameras and document incidents
• support meal service, cleaning, laundry, and intakes
• maintain shelter records and data
• provide information, referrals, and service-navigation assistance.
