Substance Use Disorder Counselor

The Substance Use Disorder Counselor role is onsite in Houston, TX, with compensation not specified. The work supports recovery goals, reduces substance use, and helps prevent relapse through assessment, evidence-informed counseling, coping strategies, and coordination with the participant’s care team.

What you'll do

• Conduct substance-use assessments when indicated
• provide individual and group counseling
• deliver outpatient services in accordance with HHSC guidelines and billing requirements
• use approved practices including motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, harm reduction, and relapse-prevention planning
• coordinate medication-management support with medical providers
• tailor interventions to participant needs and recovery goals
• document declined services and monitor ongoing need
• help participants identify triggers, develop coping skills, and build healthy routines and support systems
• collaborate with peer specialists, therapists, nurses, and case managers.
