Job overview
The Law Student Intern role is an in-person internship at the Arlington, VA headquarters, ideally 12–24 hours per week, for a fall, spring, or summer term. The internship is unpaid. The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants works to protect the rights and address the needs of people in migration. The intern supports attorneys with immigration casework, client documentation, case records, and legal clinic preparation. The role contributes to legal advocacy and services for refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and displaced people under attorney supervision.
What you'll do
- Assist attorneys with affirmative and removal-based immigration caseloads
- draft and review petitions under attorney supervision
- gather updated facts and documents for delayed cases
- submit Congressional inquiries and USCIS updates where appropriate
- prepare FOIA requests and case records
- collaborate with pro bono attorneys
- prepare clients for legal clinics.
